The volunteer shifts this year are as follows: Toy Barn Set-up: Wednesday, November 23, 6:30pm to 9:00pm - FULL Toy Barn Set-up: Friday, November 25, 6:30pm to 9:00pm - JUST ADDED! Kids Only Area Set-up: Friday, December 16, starting at 10am* -JUST ADDED! Take Down: Sunday, December 18, starting at 10am* -JUST ADDED! *The two daytime events will run until either: you have to go, which is totally fine(!), or until we finish up the task.
If you are unfamiliar with the Christmas Hamper, it supports low income families within our community by providing them with a means to have a magical Christmas despite falling upon difficult times. Families receive toys for each of their children (under 18), food for Christmas dinner, and access to Rudolph's Secondhand Shoppe, where they can take what they need from the donated household and clothing items. The children are also invited to participate in a shopping event, called "Kids Only!" where they can choose a gift for their parent at no cost.
The people who run this program are real-life heroes. They spend countless hours every year ensuring that no family is left out of the holidays. It truly is a spectacular organization to be a part of. After two and a half hours you will leave the barn with a full heart and a desire to keep on giving.
We've been given a few tasks: 1. Sorting various toys in preparation for families to come and "shop" in the barn. (Nov. 23 and 25) 2. Setting up the Kids Only area where kids will get to visit Santa and choose and wrap a gift for their parent. (Dec. 16) 3. Packing up and closing down for the year. (Dec. 18)
This is simple and meaningful work that makes a huge difference in our community. At this time I am asking that only moms sign up to participate. Please no children as they have a difficult time focusing in a room that truly resembles Santa's Toy Shop. Kids ages 16+ are welcome to join you if they'd like to participate.
We will meet in the barns at Albion Fairgrounds (directly across the parking lot from Planet Ice). You can park at the end of the gravel lot. We will put a big sign up out front so you can see which door to enter.
